You Had Me At Zombies – Navy SEALS Vs Zombies on DVD

I love the Vs movies, especially Cockneys Vs Zombies and Freddy Vs Jason.

I love loads of stuff with Zombies, so I will definitly be checking out Navy SEALS Vs Zombies

Home of the brave, land of the dead...
Home of the brave, land of the dead…
So what is it about, other than the obvious?

Eighties action legend Michael Dudikoff (American Ninja, Olympus Has Fallen) stars as Commander Sheer, the leader of a crack team of Navy SEALS charged with extracting the Vice President from a situation gone bad in New Orleans. What Sheer’s team don’t know is that the ‘situation’ is a viral outbreak that is very quickly turning the residents of the Big Easy into flesh hungry hoards of ravenous zombies and sometimes the bullets run out…

Navy SEALS Vs Zombies also stars US TV stalwart Molly Hagan (iZombie, True Detective) as a CIA agent who knows more about the outbreak than she’s prepared to let on. The definition of a high octane guilty pleasure, this is one thrill ride that guarantees to be the perfect Valentine for gorehounds everywhere.

America’s bravest warriors take on the walking dead in Navy SEALS Vs Zombies, a stone cold case of ‘does exactly what it says on the tin’ coming to DVD from February 15th, 2016, courtesy of Icon Film Distribution.

Help Fund Zombie Comic Undad!

Australian graphic novelist to publish “Undad,” the personal journey of an undead man trying to lead a normal, vegetarian life

Shane W. Smith, author of multiple long and short works, including Aurealis Award finalist “Peaceful Tomorrows,” has announced a multilevel Kickstarter campaign for his new comic project titled “Undad.”

The comic miniseries is currently scheduled for five issues with around 40 pages each and with a newUndad_large artist attached to each issue. “Undad” stars recently undead family man Brett Buckley. Buckley attempts to hide his status from friends, family and co-workers while trying to figure out his new place in the world, coach his kids’ soccer team and reconcile his militant vegetarian morals with his insatiable hunger for living flesh.

“The very best of classic zombie fiction acts as a critique of human nature, of the collective human experience, a witty indictment of mob mentality,” Shane W. Smith said, “and presents at its very core a species vainly struggling against extinction at the hand of its own darker nature.”

Smith added that although the tradition of using zombie fiction as a parable for modern life holds true in his project, “‘Undad’ does things a little differently.” This particular comic is focused on the personal individual journey of Buckley and his quest to regain the love and respect of his family.

“Becoming dead reminds him how to live,” Smith said.

The extensive Kickstarter campaign, with an initial goal of $3,750, is set up so that backers who contribute any amount will be rewarded. Investors have multiple tiers and levels to choose from, with rewards including, but not limited to, either digital or hardcopy versions of “Undad,” copies of various other titles from Smith’s collection of works, limited-edition “Undad” journals, custom sketches and even the chance to have a character of your likeness in “Undad.”

Both additional tiers/levels of contributions and investments towards issues 3-5 will be unlocked once certain dollar amounts are achieved, in hopes of keeping the donors engaged throughout the process and successful progression of the series.

Alexandra Arlango, Commissioning Editor – Original Content at AudioGO Ltd in London, has acquired world rights to an audio edition of Sam Stone’s first collection,?Zombies in New York and Other Bloody Jottings.

The book was published by Telos Publishing Ltd in 2011, and went on to win great acclaim from readers. Horror author Graham Masterton said in his introduction to the print version: ‘Sam Stone without doubt is a mistress of the grisly and the glutinous. She is one of the few horror writers who makes you feel when you have finished her stories that you need to wash your hands. Twice. I believe that we can look forward to seeing Sam Stone develop into a major influence in the realm of blood and shadows and things that wake you up, wide-eyed, in the middle of the night.’

Alexandra said of this deal: ?We are very excited to be working with Sam. She is a fresh and unique voice in horror and her short stories weave deliciously dark tales involving vampires, werewolves and clowns.?

Zombie deal with Telos for Sam Stone

Stephen James Walker, Editorial Director of Telos Publishing in London, has acquired world rights in a new zombie novella by Sam Stone. The novella, entitled Zombies at Tiffany’s, will be published in September 2012.

Sam is the award-winning author of four vampire novels collectively called “The Vampire Gene” published successfully by The House of Murky Depths. A fifth title in her series, Silent Sand, is due to be published in the autumn. She said, of this deal:

“It’s great to be back working with Telos again after the superb job they did with my horror collection Zombies in New York and Other Bloody Jottings last year. The new novella is riffing on the famous Audrey Hepburn/Blake Edwards film and the novella by Truman Capote, but it’s not the same as either. I enjoy playing with the genres, and this time we have a steampunk Victorian adventure. With zombies. In the famous Tiffany’s store in New York. It’s a lot of fun, and I even have a Jewish zombie wandering around who can only eat Kosher brains  that’s a nod to the character of Shagal the Inn Keeper, brilliantly played by Alfie Bass in the Polanski film The Fearless Vampire Killers.”

Sam Stone’s first novel, Killing Kiss, won the silver award for Best Horror Novel in ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year competition, and her subsequent novels and short stories have gained her much acclaim, including winning the British Fantasy Award. She holds an MA in Creative Writing and is a noted public speaker and lecturer. Sam’s website is at, and Telos Publishing is at

Zombie 108 – A Taiwanese First

When a Japanese nuclear disaster mutates a Flu like virus into something deadly, an apocalyptic curse of the undead is unleashed upon the world. In Taipei the government try and contain the outbreak with quarantine areas, controlled by the heavily armed police force. Unfortunately the areas of quarantine are already controlled by mafia gangs and fighting occurs between the police and the gangs until survival forces them to work together.

Using the plague as a cover, a sadistic murderer snatches female victims to chain and imprison in his basement, using them for sexual deviance and sick torture, including Linda, who was just trying to flee the city with her daughter.

Joe Chien directs Taiwan’s first ever zombie film, as well as writing it and starring as the sadist murderer. Completely fan funded, with over 900 producers, is also somewhat of a cinematic first, especially in the Asian film world.

Having never seen any type of Taiwanese film before, I was especially excited to see how stories are portrayed in other cultures. What I discovered was perverse, gory, complicated story telling.

It appears the tales of the police vs. Mafia, and Murderer parts of the story are not linked and its almost as if two different films have been tacked together. At times, and a fair few of them, the story is virtually impossible to follow, with characters thrown in randomly, that have nothing to do with anything

That said…The production values, camera shots, and zombie make up is relatively good, and the acting is not to bad with Chien himself playing the murderer and model Yvonne Yao as Linda, but that is it.

Zombie 108 comes across as an excuse to portray graphic scenes of abuse and rape on screen, and write in such a misogynistic way, that you need to add the odd zombie in to get it allowed. Whilst traditional style zombies are ok, the film can be very disturbing. Some people out there wont be bothered by excessive scenes of female torture, and they should enjoy the film. I myself did not.

Zombie 108 cannot be recommended by me purely because the rape and torture of woman doesn’t have to be in the film. Is this a zombie film? or is this a torture film?

I’m not sure even Chien himself can work out the chaos he has created.

The Walking Dead Series 2

The Walking Dead Series 2 - Click To preorder Series 2 DVD
I have been playing catchup with The Walking Dead Series 2 and I am pleased to say it is still exceeding expectations.

I must admit after the first season I was worried about the longevity of a Zombie TV series, but now (personally 4 episodes into the new series) I am actually seeing that this is becoming more of a soap opera against a Zombie Apocalypse background than a shoot’em up, same each episode series with a peril of the week.

The characters are developing well. All of which have their quirks but the series spaces itself from the common stereotypes from Zombie Movies.

The program does shock, but not usually from the walking dead themselves. Suggestions of the horror of what has gone on hang heavy (like a blood and gore splattered child car seat) more than the occasional onscreen devouring of the living.

From the cast of characters one by far has shown the most development and become the most likable. That is ‘Redneck with a Crossbow’ Daryl played by Norman Reedus (who’s other genre credits include Blade II and Pandorum).

So The walking Dead has proved it can keep me interested for 10 episodes and I now have a lot more faith that it will keep my interest well into season 3.

PS – my only real problem in the series is that the Zombies are runners and not shamblers.

Dead of Veridon by Tim Akers

Had a press release from those fantastic guys at Solaris Books:

Clockwork zombies, criminal families, fallen gods, an ancient horror thirsting for vengeance ? when trouble comes looking for Jacob Burn, it doesn?t do half measures.

Ah sounds fantastic, you had me on Clockwork Zombies though!

The failed zeppelin pilot and outcast may have saved the city of Veridon from destruction, but that doesn?t mean it?s grateful. Burn now finds himself on his own, on the wrong side of the law and on borrowed time as he is appointed to investigate the rise of the ?cog-dead.?

Zeppelin, Zombies, ‘cog-dead’ is this Zombie steampunk, a sub genre that should make it to cinema or there is no justice

Wrapped in a stunning cover from comic book legend Greg Staples, Tim Akers? fantastic hard-boiled Steampunk-Clockpunk story is a thrilling mix of rich characterisation and dramatic action set in a detailed and disturbing world that leaps off the page.

Clockpunk. Does adding the word PUNK to the end of a noun make it scifi-tastic. Might start my CatPunk book series with ‘Terminator Tiddles’ (if it has been done I WILL cry).
