What Is Mythbusters?

Bit of a personal blog post here. Mythbusters is a TV show that is not directly Science Fiction, but has some firm connections.

For the Brits reading this I am tempted to describe Mythbusters as a hybrid of Jonny Ball, How 2 and “Worlds Biggest Explosions”.

The program sees 5 seasoned special effects experts test out myths and urban legends to see if there is any grain of truth behind the stories.

Most of the guys have worked on the Star Wars prequels, Matrix sequels and other Scifi connected works.

Adam Savage off the show is a major Scifi geek. As well as his day job as a model maker on some huge Scifi blockbusters he has obsessed for years attempting to build the perfect Blade Runner blaster replica. Those following him on Twitter can see some fantastic photos of this http://twitter.com/donttrythis

Ouch That Hurt – the painful consequences of a new toy

There is good and there is bad in this world.

Good – I got my copy of Star Wars The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels for the nintendo wii this morning, it was a day before release and I had been dying to play this.

The Bad. – I got a little too enthusiastic and threw my shoulder out. I am in pain as I type. The missus is threatening to post the video she took for the review on youtube. She says she knows my password, but we will have to wait and see. Fantastic game and after a little rest I hope to be slicing and dicing Clone Wars characters again before too long.

I Want One!!! – Millennium Falcon

The fastest ship in the Star Wars galaxy is setting its sights on becoming the biggest toy this Christmas. This detailed replica of the rebel spaceship packs powerful secrets and special modifications inside and out!

Measuring more that two-and-a-half feet long, the is ready to blast off into hyperdrive with light-up headlights and loads of electronic vehicle and weapon sounds, including engine boast, cruise mode, fly-by, firing cannons and much more!

Check out the CribZ style promo video below

The ship comes with Han Solo and Chewbacca figures and can fit up to 16 more inside its secret smuggling compartments, pivoting gunner station or missile-firing mini-fighter vehicle. You can remove the outer panels to access the ships interior with the medical bay and treat some wounded troops or enjoy a game of Dejarik.

Bring the Millennium Falcon to life by activating the deployment sounds and landing lights with the auto-opening boarding ramp. You can plan your attack against the Empire with a pivoting gunner station, rotating laser turret and 3-missile launcher, with plenty of realistic blasting sounds and projectiles to keep enemies at bay.

For those who want to practice their Force fighting skills, the interior has a pivoting training probe that makes lightsaber and movement sounds. Trigger more than 20 authentic movie phrases and sounds from the voices of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, C-3PO, Chewbacca and R2-D2!

As Han Solo says: This babys got a few surprises left in her, sweetheart. – so buckle up and get ready for the hyperdrive adventure!

Robot Chicken: Star Wars on DVD

Robot Chicken Starwars
Robot Chicken Starwars

Robot chicken was created partly by Seth Green (Family Guy, Buffy, Austin Powers) and despite doing such dross as “Without A Paddle” and the “White And Nerdy” weird all video (both of which he is still playing with Star Wars Toys) he has really made his mark and not simply “that guy from buffy”

The Star Wars universe has been lampooned in many variations – but this is one of the greats (and much better than Family Guy’s Blue Harvest). Robot Chicken Star Wars is basically an extended episode of [adult swim] which is jam-packed with unforgettable moments parodying all 6 films.

Robot Chicken: Star Wars boasts an all-star voice cast including Star Wars creator himself, George Lucas plus Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane, Breckin Meyer, Donald Faison, Hulk Hogan and James Van Der Beek.

The story begins not long ago, in a galaxy not far enough away where we see Emperor Palpatine receive a reverse charge call from the Dark Lord announcing the destruction of the Death Star, watch the droids have trouble getting through airport security and see Admiral Akbar selling out in an advert for his own breakfast cereal. If that wasn’t enough to wet your appetite, George Lucas gets saved from a mob of nerds at a Star Wars convention, Luke and the Emperor settle things with a ‘yo mama’ fight and there’s even a new unforgettable addition to the Star Wars franchise with ‘Empire on Ice’…and that’s just a snippet of the 35 sketches featured!
