A free version of their popular iOS title, ‘Call of Cthulhu:The Wasted Land’ is now availble. Until now the game has only been available as a paid-for title but the free version allows players to dip their toe into the pool of insanity first. In the free version, the first mission (titled ‘The Battle of Pudding Lane’) and the training mission are free. From there if players are still not sure about diving in they can continue onwards paying $0.99/?0.59/?0.79 per level. However from this point if you are enjoying the game it makes much more sense to buy the full game for the normal price of $4.99/?2.99/?3.99. In both versions of the game, new DLC levels can be purchased.
The game’s designer, Tomas Rawlings, quoted, ?We wanted to give players who might be interested in either the game or the concepts a chance to try out the title before they commit their hard earned cash to it. With the free version they can try the game out first and then if they like what they see, we’d hope they buy the full version.?
If you are new to this cult title, it is a turn-based strategy RPG inspired by the writings of classic horror writer H.P. Lovecraft. Red Wasp Design co-operated with the publishers of the paper version of the RPG, Chaosium, in making the game. The normal version of the game features nine 3D levels set in the trenches of World War One. In ‘The Wasted Land’ the player uses their team of investigators to uncover a deadly conspiracy underlying the Great War. As the game progresses, the player can build up the skills, weapons and equipment of their team. Barbed wire, mustard gas and machines guns will prove to be the least dangerous things the investigators will encounter as they venture out into No-man’s Land to solve the mystery of the Wasted Land.

To celebrate the new opportunities to bring madness to gamers, Red Wasp Design are running a competition. The prize is a unique 1-of-a-kind Cthulhu-cup created by the game’s lead artist. The cup was modelled in 3D then printed out in a Lovecraftian ceramic green. To win this unique prize, simply tweet or post on the Facebook thread a horrific, amusing, pulp fiction, wry or insanity-inducing ending to the sentence, ?When Cthulhu wakes…? by the 27th June. Entrants can post as many endings as they like and the developers will pick their favourite on the 28th and award them the prize. The developers asked that if tweeting please use the hashtag #whencthulhuwakes.
