British SciFi Movie DREDD Number 1

Dredd 3D takes the UK?s Cinema number 1 position having taken ?1Million on its opening weekend beating the competition including Anna Karenina, Lawless and Total Recall. Get this obscure fact fans – DREDD is the first 18 certificate film to be number 1 since 2010.

Created from 2000AD’s iconic flagship character Judge Dredd, this British film has been brought to life by Alex Garland (28 Days Later) and produced by DNA?s Allon Reich and Andrew Macdonald (28 Weeks Later, Never Let Me Go). Shot in 3D with stunning slow motion photography, the film stars Karl Urban (Star Trek, The Lord of the Rings) as the legendary Judge Dredd and is joined by Olivia Thirlby (Juno), Lena Headey (300, ?Game of Thrones?), Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) and Wood Harris (?The Wire?).

Dredd 3D depicts future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One– a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called ?Judges? who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge ? a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of ?Slo-Mo? experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighbourhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan?s inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound?s control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

DREDD 3D Prologue Story

The eagerly awaited arrival of DREDD 3D to movie screens in the UK takes place on 7th September and in North America on 21st September.

To mark this return to the big screen for Britain?s biggest comic book character, JUDGE DREDD MEGAZINE #328 will be a bumper issue featuring new and exclusive DREDD movie features, interviews, comic strip, and concept art.

Released on 12th September, it includes the specially commissioned DREDD 3D prologue story – Top of The World, Ma-Ma – written by 2000 AD editor Matt Smith and drawn by fan favourite artist Henry Flint. It charts the rise of the ruthless gang leader who Dredd and Anderson must confront in the Alex Garland-scripted movie.

This 144-page issue also features insightful interviews with screenwriter Alex Garland and Judge Dredd himself, actor Karl Urban, as well as EXCLUSIVE never-before-seen movie concept art and designs from artist Jock.

Just got the new approved version of the Star Trek Movie trailer. is JJ Abrahams going to weave his magic, or is he going to kill a classic, we will just have to wait and see.

Not a sequel as I am sure you are aware, but a ‘remake’/’reimagining’ (or whatever buzzword they want to attribute to this) of the classic Sci-Fi Series STAR TREK. We are taken back to the early days of James T. Kirk (the middle name is Tiberius – I am sure we all know that) and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members during their time at Starfleet Academy. Star Trek is a new vision of the greatest space adventure of all time, featuring a young new crew venturing boldly where no man has ever gone before.
