The Pop Culture Juggernauts Re-team for a 5-Week Crossover Series This November

San Diego (July 20, 2017) — This November, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Ghostbusters reunite for an inter-dimensional comic book adventure (and probably a large pizza!) in the upcoming weekly crossover event series from IDW Publishing.

Our story begins when an old adversary traps the Turtles in a ghost dimension, as old adversaries are wont to do. However, all hope is not lost for our Heroes in Half-Shell, as New York City’s resident experts on all things spooky quickly answer the call.

The dream writing team of Erik Burnham (Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe) and Tom Waltz (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, editor for Ghostbusters) are back to tackle scripting duties and will be joined by lead Ghostbusters artist Dan Schoening, whose animated art style has come to define the look of the Ghostbusters comics. An array of multi-talented artists with Turtles credentials are also getting in on the mass hysteria including Pablo Tunica (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe), Tadd Galusha (TMNT: Bebop & Rocksteady Destroy Everything), Mark Torres (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and C.P. Wilson III (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters).

“When Erik and I first broached the idea of joining the TMNT with the Ghostbusters way back when, it felt like a wonderfully impossible dream,” said co-writer Tom Waltz. “Well, that dream came true with the first volume in a big way, and now I’m absolutely ecstatic to have the opportunity to once again help bring my two favorite quartets together for another massive comic book crossover event! And, like the first go-around, the events in this story directly flow out of and affect the storylines in both ongoing series.”

“I had such a blast working on the first crossover with Tom, and in the years since, we’ve talked about what we might do if we ever got a crack at a sequel,” said co-writer Erik Burnham. “When the opportunity came up, we didn’t even use a single one of those plans! Instead, we grabbed villains from both universes and mixed them together to form the foundation of a fun story that furthers the ongoing stories of both the Turtles and the Ghostbusters. Even better, we get some more one-on-one scenes, allowing their complementary personalities to shine and we’re beyond excited to share!”

When last the Turtles and the original ‘Busters crossed streams in 2014, the Turtles got stuck in the Ghostbusters dimension… along with a brand-new, all-powerful, all-crazy ghost from centuries past! It was met with enthusiasm from both fans and critics with IGN declaring the mash-up of proton packs and ninjutsu “hugely entertaining.”

Pre Halloween Weekend TV.

Dear scifinders and fiends: We have ourselves a whole pre-halloween weekend of TV, plus an extra hour! I hope you can make the most of it, and don’t waste it on silly things like sleep

If you can get yourself early to the TV, Film4 at 6.25pm is showing King Kong (1976) – the glorious 70’s meme rich version starring Jessica Lange and Jeff Bridges. Oh the Dresses! The Flares! The Pathos!

For those of us glued, of course Shield is on Channel4 at 8pm. But you could hot foot it over to Film4 at 9pm for Terminator: Salvation (2009). Personally I’m heading for BBC4 and Tommy (1975). More Flares, Power Cords and, well yes, Pathos. (sorry)

Saturday sees a warning shot – ITV is showing Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones (2002) at 2pm.

I’ll give afternoon preference to Channel5, who bring us the (nominally) 2nd World War drama Run Silent Run Deep (1958). Yes, its a war film, but its also a brilliant psychological speculative drama, touching on the same interpersonal conflicts common to combat based science fiction. It also stars Clark Gable, Burt Lancaster, Jack Warden, Brad Dexter and Don Rickles.

Evening viewing? We suggest The Phantom (1996) for swashbuckling fantasy, with a dose of Catherine Zeta Jones and Billy Zane. Its on Film4 at 4.55pm, and we should warn you that its been edited for broadcast.

9pm on Channel 5 sees my pick of the day: Stephen King’s Bag of Bones. Although with its post midnight finish, it might be wise to find something light and fluffy to settle you back down for bed… you have an extra hour after all

Sunday, sunday…. so good to me…

Grab some nachos, and settle in as Ghostbusters gets a Halloween outing on Channel 5 at 6.55pm. Also on Channel5 later, Scream 4 (2011). Terrestrial premiere for this schlock flick. 9pm.

If you’d rather not, then there is David Lynch’s The Elephant Man (1980) on ITV3 at 10.35pm. The classic film starring a host of fashionable society. Fact-based drama, directed by David Lynch, and starring John Hurt, Anthony Hopkins, Anne Bancroft, John Gielgud, Wendy Hiller and Freddie Jones. Also features Hannah Gordon and Michael Elphick.

To close the day beautifully, Just Like Heaven (2005) is on BBC2 at 11.45pm.

So there has been an inter dimensional accident and the ghostbusters have disappeared. But all is not lost – the state of New York has found some funds and recruited a new team, but this time they are trained and (mainly) women! Following a rather degrading costume change and photo shoot the team, consisting of Staffer Janine Meinitz, FBI Agent Melanie Ortiz, Occult bookstore manager Kylie Griffin and returning tech support Ron Alexander, set off in search of a ghost in central park…

… in the meantime, in a dimension not actually that far away, the original Ghostbusters Peter, Ray, Winston and Egon are consulting their kit, and working out if its going to be possible to ‘get home’.

A nice little B strip looks at the lives of ghosts captured and trapped in the prison dimension, plus the wordy bit makes mention of Dr Who, Sandman, and Miyazaki.

This series looks to be suitably true to the Ghostbusters we all know, and is written by Erik Burnham, with art by him and Dan Schoening, and colours by Luis Antonio

Ghostbusters #2 Is released 13th March 2013

The ghost of a notorious killer has begun to haunt New York, and The New Ghostbusters have to stop him before he can pick up where he left off! Meanwhile, the Original Ghostbusters compare notes—trying to figure out where they are, and how to get home…

An unmissable big screen / big sound / drunk showing of the 1984 uber-classic GHOSTBUSTERS. Obviously everyone involved was firing on all cylinders. Directed by Ivan Reitman (who also voiced Zuul) and written by and starring Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and and uncredited (for writing) Rick Moranis. Too good.

The BBC have just announced that they are developing a UK spin of of the hit 1980s movies GHOSTBUSTERS. Sharing the same production staff and studios as Doctor Who in Wales the initial 13 part series aims to be aired in 2010. Doctor Who’s Russel T Davies is to be executive producer and the key writer is to be Being Human creator Toby Whithouse. The cast is tightly under wraps, but Aidan Turner, Russell Tovey and John Simm are all hotly tipped to have major roles in the series. The series – set 20 years after the events of the last movie, After huge media sucess of the original Ghostbusters in New York allows Dr. Peter Venkman and Dr. Egon Spengler to set up a limited series of worldwide franchises. Story rumours also hint that Dan Aykroid’s character Ray Stantz has been missing for 10 years and may just make an appearance in the UK Ghostbusters TV series. But are we going to see the fantastic Ghostbusters on the big screen at any time? I think not. “TV is the new media of choice for developing story and characters” Executive producer Dan Apriloid states. “We now have much more freedom in what we can do and the storys we can tell. The Doctor Who production team suit this production down to the ground, their understanding of the challenges of the genre has been built up with sucessful shows like Dr Who and Torchwood”. Cannot wait!!!

Yes this was an obvious april fool – but the Ghostbusters 3 movie seems to firmly be on the cards, cannot wait for this making the Ghostbusters series of films a Ghostbusters Trilogy at last!
