Last weekend it came to the time where we had to pick the evenings DVD (having young children we cannot get out as much as we would like) the pick of the evening was the monster movie classic from 1990 ? Tremors.
The film follows Val (Kevin Bacon) and Earl (Fred Ward) and … oh if you don’t know already just BUY THE FILM ? you will thank me for it.
Love the film and all its sequels, Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) makes the movies (Scifi Channel when are you going to show the TV series again ? it hasn’t yet been released on DVD?).
Any way after 90 minutes of graboid fun, I ended up looking up the career of the fantastic Victor Wong who played shop owner Walter Chang, (this is an annoying habit I have ? consulting the IMDB right after watching a film, sometimes I have the IMDB primed and ready whilst watching a DVD ? Sad eh.). Whilst on the ?portal of all film knowledge? I found the entry fro Tremors 5! (aka Tremors V: The Thunder from Down Under) I knew that this had been in development hell for a long while, but the page had its status update as ANNOUNCED and dated Christmas Eve 2008. WOW I thought were they actually going to do it? A Tremors film every 5 years is about right on schedule.
Checking the official production company website I saw no mentions of the project. So I took the next step and emailed writer/producer SS Wilson. I got a reply that read:
While there was indeed a plan afoot to make it recently, the plan ran aground along with world’s financial woes. Universal has once again “shelved” the script.
Yes, the story, which we’d dearly love to do one day, follows Burt to Australia where Graboids have surfaced once again, along with other surprises.
Very sad news. Although I did diss remakes and reimaginings the other week, this would have been a continuation of a very strong series, and a very strong lead character in the guise of Burt Gummer (Michael Gross).
All is not quiet on the Stampeed Prodcutions side of things, fingers crossed we will still see NIGHT CREW surface
Night Crew is a fast-moving monster tale full of quirky characters, scary moments, and laugh-out-loud humor, but this time in an urban setting. The script is fine-tuned in budget and concept.
Bit like Tremors In The City then?
The Tremors film series should survive, in one form or another.
Any one want to put their hands in their pockets and chip in a couple of pounds/dollars/yen/euro ? would only take about 20 million of us?
