The Cosplay hobby is one that has become more and more prevalent in the UK convention scene, and has always been a part of it. Cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific characters from TV / Movie and Videogames.
The term “cosplay” was coined in Japan in 1984. It was inspired by and grew out of the practice then-known as fan costuming at science fiction conventions, beginning with the 1st World Science Fiction Convention in New York City in 1939.
There are a number of cosplay groups that operate, often being charitable organisations.
Should you wish to list your organisation here please get in contact.
The UKCL was formed in January 2012 as a Facebook group, a collective entity, a name to join under for the Cybermen of the UK & beyond. Since then we have grown and over the months of 2014 became a fully fledged non profit costuming group. We make no personal profit from our attendances, instead raise money for various charities.
We have attended many events including exhibitions, SciFi cons and working with the BBC including a Doctor Who BBC Staff party at BBC Broadcasting House in London.
