The Edge: Dawnfall Board Game Kickstarter by Awaken Realms

Awaken Realms are a miniature painting studio, miniatures creators, games creators and publishers. #

They have teamed up with Polish fantasy writer, Krzysztof Piskorski, to create a boardgame immersed in a rich Steampunk Universe.

The miniatures are amazingly detailed and coupled with a pick up and play philosophy for the game itself it looks to be a winning combination.

Dynamic skills

While designing skill cards we did not want to go the easy way and put “+x bonus” on them. Instead we designed them to be highly dynamic and story related. Hound pulling sniper on his line of movement? Angel of Death with a final charge from the sky? Brute taunting his enemies? All possible in The Edge!

Campaign mode

The Edge will have also rich campaign story mode, where the game will be played on 2 boards: economic /political map of the world and regular, conflict Board Game for resolving battles. This way, game will play on two levels, just like in Total War computer games series.

Story scenarios

Scenarios will enable you to dive into rich The Edge universe, where you will learn about each factions motivation. They will also force you to take hard decisions with consequences later on in the game.

Asymmetric factions

Each faction from The Edge have different set of units, skill cards and other feel of play. This makes every match up really exciting and you can find a game style that will fit you best.

Large hex system

With large hex system we believe we brought revolution to overall movement and game dynamic. All actions are operated on small hex, but all movement and ranges are considered with Large Hexes (7 small hexes). This way, it is very easy to move around and flow of the game on big board is amazing!

Size DOES matter

The Edge comes with really BIG miniatures and we want you to feel their power and presence. Big units can push over smaller units out of their positions and this gives the game additional dimension.

Game is growing

Gameplay is focused on gathering crystals that will be added to your mana pool. They are constant source of power for your skills. Players are growing in power turn by turn and game is more tense with time.

Build your army and your deck

You will be able to build your army and deck of skills. Thousands of possibilities limited only by your imagination!

Mutant Chronicles Siege of the Citadel Boardgame

The Mutant Chronicles Siege of the Citadel Boardgame was first seen in the 1990s this new edition is bringing together an A-List design team (including Eric M Lang & Kevin Wilson) who are updating and balancing not only the rules, but also the new miniatures and tiles.

Originally published by Pressman Toys in the 1990s, the Siege of the Citadel boardgame was one of the first of its kind to offer features such as co-operative play, character development and the rotation of the Dark Legion player. SLA Industries Skirmish Game – Kickstarter Closing Soon.

SLA Industries Skirmish Game
SLA Industries Skirmish Game

The SLA Industries Skirmish Game has been many years in the making, so first a little history.

Way back in 1993 Scottish company Nightfall Games released SLA Industries a science fiction/horror table top RPG. Dice and books not a computer in sight. SLA Industries (SLA pronounced SLAY) is a very British antidote to the slick and angsty settings that were popular at the time. Set in The World Of Progress, the sphere of SLA Industries’ influence in the known universe, players take on the roles of operatives, employees of an all-encompassing company that controls a frightened population with reality TV and violence while a creeping horror claws its way through the edges of reality.

The game has seen renewed popularity recently, as Nightfall Games reclaimed publication, releasing source material as PDFs over the last few years. With the game returning to print in the near future, Nightfall Games partnered with Daruma Productions to produce a line of miniatures (including iconic characters like Halloween Jack and Delia the Destroyer) and a skirmish game to allow more people to enjoy the setting and characters of SLA Industries.

Daruma Productions have already produced a number of miniatures Scavs, Shivers, Carrien and a couple of heroes for the SLA Industries Skirmish Game and the Kickstarter launches the rules!

Rewards for the Kickstarter include the printed rulebook and faction cards.

Check it out here.

The SLA Industries Skirmish Game Kickstarter

What you are funding is the rulebook and faction decks. The book is to be full-colour with all-new illustrations by Dave Allsop, designed by Nightfall Games and written by Daruma Productions with dozens of pages of new background and information by Dave Allsop and Jared Earle, two of the original writers of SLA Industries. Our head of Rules Development is Brad Zalad, a familiar face in the UK tournament scene. He runs a tight ship ruleswise and is keen that SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector 1 is a balance between tight, tournament-ready rules and scenario-driven narrative games.

Along with the gorgeous rulebook, you will be getting faction decks and other goodies depending on your pledge levels, all fresh from the high-quality Daruma Productions facilities, including exclusive bags and shirts.

Project Z – Zombie Skirmish Game

In Project Z you fight to survive in the abandoned streets of a post-apocalyptic world infested by unnatural creatures hungry for your flesh. Scavenge for scarce supplies whilst battling against the dead and the living alike; there are no laws, there are no rules, only the fight.

Project Z Starter Box
Project Z Starter Box

Project Z is a skirmish wargame from Warlord Games. In this game 1 to 3 players take control of Survivors or a Street Gang fighting to survive against the environment and an ever-growing horde of Zombies. Project Z is a fast and easy to learn game containing 39 detailed self-assembly plastic models, rules, counters and specially designed dice and cards.

The game is best played on a smaller 2-3 foot table, so is great for those who would love to play a regular skirmish game but are restricted on space. Project Z will play nicely on a kitchen table.

Yes the miniatures require assembly, but in about 20 minutes of opening the core Project Z Box you are ready to start playing.

Extensive use of cards and measurement templates means that the game is quick to learn and very rewarding very quickly.

The miniatures are not exactly starter, and you do get to assemble heads, arms, weapons etc to the models which means you have a lot of control over the look of the model on the table. Painting is optional – but a very good next step for those moving from board games to more freeform world of skirmish and war games.

Project Z Core Box Contents

But the big questions is: How Many Zombies Do I Get?

Well in the core starter box you get 23 zombies, 10 survivors and 6 biker gang models. Some of the figures are clearly influenced by certain TV Shows and Movies.

Did we mention that the starter set for Project Z was just £30 (often discounted at retailers such as Element Games)

Heroquest -Best Review Ever

If you didn’t know HeroQuest (or Hero Quest) is an adventure board game created by Milton Bradley and Games Workshop in the late 1980s. The the game was based loosely around archetypes of fantasy role-playing games. It was an entry point between Board Games and RPGs.

Youtuber BardicBroadcasts tells us about the game, and the best thing about it!

Why tell me kind sir, what is it that is so great about Hero Quest?

(A few good reasons to search for Heroquest on eBay!)

maxresdefault

The Board Game game itself was actually a game system, allowing the gamemaster (called “Morcar” in the original British version and most localizations, but “Zargon” in the USA and Canada) to create dungeons of their own design using the provided game board, tiles, furnishings and monsters.

Several expansions were released, each adding new tiles, artifacts and new monsters to the core system.

Guild Ball By Steamforge Games

Guild BallGuild Ball By Steamforge Games is a combat football game that is so NOT a BloodBall substitute, but has partially filled that niche in the past couple of years.

This is the first in Scifind’s series of articles looking at tabletop games.

But Guild Ball is not a game of Orc/Orks and Dwarves, but of Alchemists, Brewers, Butchers, Engineers, Fishermen, Hunters, Masons, Morticians and The Union.

Guild Ball is more a perversion of the ‘Mob Football’ / Village Football of old. Where getting a pigs bladder from one end of the village to the other was the aim. Few rules and used to get a bit messy.

Element Games - Wargaming Webstore

So what is the Guild Ball world’s take on this?

“The powerful Guilds of the land have taken advantage of the huge popularity of the sport as another means to control the masses. They invested vast sums of money; creating professional Guild sponsored teams and structured leagues. The public went crazy as the game was elevated to new heights of spectacle. Guild Ball was born amidst a blaze of interest and publicity and with it, a whole new business and revenue stream for the Guilds. Games are now played out in front of vast crowds of fans, whilst behind the scenes the results can mean fortunes are won or lost on the kick of a ball.”

Alchemist’s Playstyle

Alchemists’ are quick on their feet and capable with the ball, but not as resilient in combat as other teams. They excel in the early to mid-game due to their ability to cover a good amount of space.

Brewer’s Playstyle

Brewers are incredible at soaking damage up in games of Guild Ball.

They stand their ground and may win late in the game when they control the field with greater numbers.

Butcher’s Playstyle

Butchers’ play style has been designed to be quite straightforward. They are masters of the mid to late game. They excel at damage output and generate a lot of momentum through combat and damage effects. They provide each other with a good assortment of buffs and debuffs in order to allow combo play. Butchers mainly focus on raw damage.

Engineer’s Playstyle

The Engineers play style is one of accuracy and controlling space. They utilise all manner of gadgets, devices and traps to influence the flow and direction of the game. From a distance, the Engineers players move as one giant machine, perfectly in sync with each other…

Fisherman’s Playstyle

Fisherman play style is all about movement and raw goal-scoring potential. They are dominant in the early game and can easily draw one or two goals ahead very quickly. However, mid to late game they need to be wary, especially if they lose a player or two.

Buy Fishermen’s Models and Accessories

Mason’s Playstyle

Masons’ play style is all about balance and subtle flexibility. They have strong but not outstanding offensive and defensive options available to them. With a good mix of buffs and debuffs forming the foundation of their combo play, they need each other to excel.

Buy Mason’s Models and Accessories

Mortician’s Playstyle

Morticians’ play style is about planning and execution. They control play with a huge amount of influence at their disposal, along with the ability to steal more from their opponent. Their play feels very much like setting traps, triggering the snare and then punishing their opponent. Mid-game is where they really shine – once well laid plans have turned to mush, Morticians can begin to dictate the play.

Buy Mortician’s Models and Accessories.

The Union Playstyle

The Union play style is one of role specialism and individual play. They have an array of strong options across attack. Their defensive game isn’t as strong due to their focus on assassin or surgical removal style play. You need a game plan; set them up to deliver it and you will win. Think of these like a team of precision scalpels – just don’t try chopping down trees with them!
