Crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising monetary contributions from a large number of people, today often performed via internet-mediated registries, but the concept can also be executed through mail-order subscriptions, benefit events, and other methods.

Introducing a narrative Turn-Based Strategy game with strong RPG elements set in the Achtung! Cthulhu universe
7th February, 2018: The allied powers of tabletop star Modiphius, indie publisher extraordinaire Ripstone and veteran strategy game developer Auroch Digital have announced they are marshalling their collective forces to will bring the award-winning Achtung! Cthulhu tabletop series to PC, in their new video game: Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics – The Forest of Fear, later this year.
Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics – The Forest of Fear is a World War II themed strategic role-playing game in which the Nazis have turned to other-worldly beings to bolster their war effort. In this universe, the Nazi’s well-known obsession with the occult has yielded results, with their discovery that the creatures of the Cthulhu Mythos are real. Thus begins ‘The Secret War’ where covert allied operators fight desperate battles against an unholy alliance of Nazi science and Mythos sorcery. Featuring Shoggoth-powered Panzers, HMG-armed investigators, mutated Nazi super soldiers, secret bunkers filled with mysterious research and alien artifact-powered wonder weapons – Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics – The Forest of Fear has it all!
Achtung! Cthulhu originally debuted five years ago as a Kickstarter project by the then nascent Modiphius. It smashed its original funding goal many times over and has expanded to a wide range of tabletop products including expansions to the RPG, a skirmish miniatures game, novels, audio dramas, and multiple crossovers with other licenses. It has wowed critics as well as players with its sweeping apocalyptic narrative arc and inventive monstrous creations, winning multiple awards since its release.
Tomas Rawlings, Chief Commander at Auroch Digital has released a statement only recently broken by the boffins at Bletchley Park, “It’s a real honor to work alongside Modiphius and Ripstone on what will be a premium Cthulhu-mashup. Having worked with the Ripstone team before back in the PlayStation 3 days, together we made amazing strategy games, and I’m confident history will repeat itself!”
Kings of War: Vanguard is a Skirmish game from Mantic Games (Who make Deadzone, Kings Of War and The Walking Dead Miniatures Games).
Mantic wanted something that would compliment their existing Kings of War range and also provide a starting point for those looking to start their own Kings of War army. (Like Me).
This is a good thing as not everyone has time or space for a sprawling 2-3 hour game of large format combat. A one hour skirmish game is great, played on a smaller area.
The format is looking to be skilled warriors, along with a few supporting troops, rather than the more typical rank and flank.
Skirmishes are also looking to feed into larger games: “It was also clear how these battles could feed into larger games of Kings of War too. So if you play a game of Vanguard in which the objective is to light beacons to show the way, in Kings of War you’ll be able to deploy your troops in a more advantageous position. Likewise, the scenarios can go the other way too, so you start with a big battle and then play a game of Vanguard in which you loot the corpses. Of course, Vanguard can be played independently of Kings of War and there will be a full campaign mode.” – Rob Burman, Mantic
Kings of War: Vanguard Fluff
Mantica is a world ravaged by war, a constant fight for land and resources, or prestige and power. The borders of countries wax and wane like the phases of the moon. The sound of mighty armies marching to war echoes throughout the land.
But wars can be won before the first arrows have been fired, or sword has smashed against sword. Small warbands of hardened warriors clash in desperate struggles to gain the tactical advantage before the battle lines are drawn. These are the bloody skirmishes before the war, where warriors become legends.
Kings of War: Vanguard will be launching on Kickstater soon.
Vanguard Character Cards
Vanguard will feature character cards that include all the stats you’ll need to play. Each of the heroes, special characters and warriors will come with their own cards, giving players a great reference during the game. When you’re playing a campaign, we’ll also be making a roster sheet, so you can track upgrades/new abilities/xp.
Vanguard Character Cards Key
NAME – if they’re a named character, this will be their name, e.g. Grekle Cacklemaster, or if they’re a standard miniature it’ll be the name of the unit.
RACE/TYPE – first up you can see what Race the model is. The model’s Race is also a keyword that may interact with other rules, e.g. a unit could receive a bonus when attacking a Race they particularly despise. Next, models will be one (or more) of the following Types: Grunt, Warrior, Support, Command, Spellcaster, and Large. Type is important when building a Warband and, once again, the Type is a keyword that may interact with other rules.
POINTS – this is how many points it costs to add the model to your warband.
STATS – this is where you can find all the stats for the model.
This value shows the distance the model can move in inches.
This is the target number the model needs to roll to hit a target when using a Ranged attack, typically as part of a Shoot or Cast action.
This is the target number the model needs to roll to hit an opponent when making a Melee attack.
This is the target number a model needs to roll to avoid taking damage and suffering wounds.
This is the target number for any Nerve tests the model needs to take. This will come into play if the Warband is broken or if something unnerving happens.
This shows the number of wounds the model can suffer before it is removed from play as a casualty. The larger the number, the more resilient (or stupid!) the model is.
The height of a model affects how it interacts with other models and terrain for line of sight and visibility of targets.
5. SPECIAL RULES – here you can see any special rules the model has. Some of these will be similar to those seen in Kings of War, while others will be completely new.
6. POWER DICE – this indicates how many Power Dice the model generates. The Power Dice work a little like the Command Dice in Deadzone and we’ll have a closer look at Power Dice in a future blog.
7. RANGED & MELEE – this shows how many D8s the model rolls during combat. That’s right, we’ll be using D8s for Vanguard, rather than standard D6s. Even better we’ve got exploding D8s during combat to help create some crazy cinematic moments.
8. EQUIPMENT – equipment will play a large part in Vanguard, as warbands uncover and buy new items during a campaign. Some models will come equipped with weapons/items as standard and they’ll be listed here.
9. SPELLS – spellcasters will have their spells listed here. We’ll be expanding the number of spells available, compared to Kings of War. Also, you may notice it says (short) after the spell name. Just like Deadzone, models will be able to perform two short actions or one long action. Some spells will be long actions, while others will be short. What’s more you’ll be able to boost spells to make them more powerful. As spellcasters gain experience in a campaign, they will also get the chance to learn new spells from an advanced spellbook or faction-specific magic.
10. SPECIAL ABILITIES and RULES – if the model has any special abilities they’ll be listed here. Special Abilities use the Power Dice mentioned earlier, so we’ll go into specifics in a future blog.
Kings of War: Vanguard Power Dice
The Dice are as follows red – weakest, white – slightly better and blue –best. These dice come with differing amounts of stars on (up to a maximum of three) to represent the amount of successes rolled.
The Power Dice are an integral part of Vanguard that really help to create those cinematic and exciting moments you expect to see in a skirmish game
A Bit About Vanguard Combat
Combat system relies on D8!
Starting on point 7 of the stat card above.
Once we’d settled on D8s, we deliberated about whether or not the number 8 should ‘explode’ when rolled. Ultimately we decided that the opportunity to go into ‘overdrive’ by rolling 8s fitted nicely with the idea of individuals going all out for victory. It also helped to create those cinematic moments that you’ll end up talking about after games. ‘Remember, that time the goblin took out an Earth Elemental after rolling six 8s?’ It may be extremely unlikely, but all us goblin lovers can dream.
Anyway, going back to the stat card. Firstly you’ll check the range or melee attack stat to see how many D8s you’ll be rolling. Next up, check the ‘Ra’ or ‘Me’ stat for the target number you’ll need to roll. Any successes count as potential hits against your opponent. Finally your opponent rolls the number of dice equal to the potential hits and is trying to equal or exceed the ‘Ar’ statistic. This gives the defending player the opportunity to add some extra dice using any spare Power in order to keep their most valuable units alive!
Rob Burman – Mantic Games
The defending player can also retaliate against the attack – immediately – cool, as you would wouldn’t you.
Santa brought me a ZX Spectrum 48K Christmas 1984. My Aunty Ann gave me ten whole pounds, with which I purchased Knight Lore, and within weeks my paper round money and (shh, dinner money – I survived on crisp sandwiches) meant I could buy one full price game a week. I lived the Spectrum. I breathed the Spectrum. It was in my blood and in my soul. I was addicted!
Andy Remic’s Spectrum Addict: LOAD “FILM 2” is a new Kickstarter crowdfunding project about the Sinclair ZX Spectrum home computer.
The Kickstarter has gone live and will run throughout October.
The first film, Memoirs of a Spectrum Addict, met with critical acclaim and lots of nice people said nice things about it, like Retro Gamer Magazine who awarded it Pick of the Month and said, “There’s a heart and personality to Memoirs which is missing from many of its peers” and “It’s a delightful labour of love”.
Horror Webseries “Cops and Monsters” is currently available for FREE on Youtube.
Set in a near-future Scotland, we follow newbies Maya Hedges and Martin Carmichael as they join the Paranormal Investigation Team Scotland (PITS). Series 1 follows their case of Lycan A202, a dangerous werewolf assassin on the run.
Currently they are looking to raise a very modest £1000 to fund the final stages of Series One and put the series in good stead for series 2.
Please check out their campaign on Indiegogo. Pledges start at £10, which considering the value of being able to watch the series online, without putting your hand in your pocket is the least you could do.
Set 5 years before episode 1, a young and potentially dangerous werewolf is kidnapped by The Cult of Many Faces. The pair face off against one another, pitting their wits together in an attempt to see who will crack first.
Written by Fraser Coull.
Christmas Special 2016: Astrid’s Secret
A spin-off episode written by Roland Moore. Astrid Bennett is a reliable and unremarkable member of the PITS team. She’s not on the front line, but provides office support behind the scenes. Norris Fletcher is her boss, but knows little about her quiet and introspective employee. That’s until he drops round Astrid’s house unexpectedly one night…and then he discovers that Astrid has a dark secret…
Episode 3: In Crimson
Upon discovering Lycan A2o2’s latest kill, the PITS team find themselves wrapped up in the mystery of the Crimson Murders. After investigating a gruesome crime scene, Maya then has to face up to the thought of meeting her Aunt, Tina, who she hasn’t spoken to in quite some time. Meanwhile, The Cult of Many Faces makes his first move in his terrifying game.
With fellow PITS agent Martin kidnapped, Maya is determined to chase every lead, causing her to clash with goody-two-shoes Grace Mackenzie. The Cult of Many Faces ramps up his campaign of terror, visiting vampire queen, Lady Audrey MacDairmid (guest star Sophie Aldred), taunting her about werewolf activist David Brannigan (James Payton) and his army of wolves. Meanwhile Alexis is forced to face her humanity when a face from the past catches up with her.
Taking Zoe’s advice to heart, Alexis finds herself in the strange world of supernatural support group, “Fight the Bite”, while Maya struggles to obey Norris’ orders of desk duty when she receives a troubling message from The Cult of Many Faces as the team race against the close to save Martin’s life. We are also introduced to Vampire PR specialist Alicia Hughes (Leona Vaughan) who has been sent by the Minister of Justice (Chris Bain) to oversee the PITS team’s mission when the vampires threaten to revolt over the death of one of their leaders.
During a routine security inspection, PITS officer Astrid Bennett finds herself trapped with Fight the Bite moderator, and werewolf, Jenny Connor, as they search for an escape when a prominent werewolf hunter, Karis Jones, takes over the building.

Episode 6: Inhuman Nature
The Cult of Many Faces has Maya Hedges right where he wants her, and the truth about her parents will be revealed. Grace will struggle with Norris’ authority, taking a risk with her fiance, Alicia, that could jeopardise the very existence of the Paranormal Investigation Team Scotland. Meanwhile Alexis is left to convince Martin that becoming a vampire is far better than a mortal, forcing her to face her own humanity in the process.
The PITS team, lead up by Eve Mitchell (Kirsty Strain), pull in Vampire C56 aka Julia (Sarah Louise Madison) over a zone violation on her curfew rights. However it soon becomes clear that Eve and Jack (Mark Harvey) have an ulterior motive and wish to exploit Julia’s predicament to find out about a mysterious, powerful werewolf known only as Lycan A202. Space Goat Productions announced today that the Kickstarter campaign for The Terminator™: The Official Board Game will go live on February 15th. They have partnered with Lynnvander Studios for game design.
“Terminator isn’t just pop culture; it’s culture,” said Publisher Shon Bury. “It’s immense,” he continued. “To do a property of this magnitude, so hot on the heels of our Evil Dead 2 board game Kickstarter, we had to bring in the best help we could find. There is no better help than the guys who made the Buffy game, Lynnvander.”
Branching into board game design from production in the film industry, Lynnvander enters 2017 with The Terminator™, Galaxy Quest, Dragon Ball Z, and Cowboy Bebop. “We’re especially excited for Terminator because of the fan base and the unique game we’ve designed with Space Goat,” commented designer Thomas Gofton. “They’re a creative and experience-driven, good-hearted company. That fits Lynnvander’s Canadian motto.”
The Terminator™: The Official Board Game is an asymmetrical strategy game played across two boards, one in 1984 and one in 2029. One player takes control of all the forces of the Skynet machines: Hunter Killer flying machines, Terminator Endoskeletons, and new robots based on the classic 80’s aesthetic. The rest of the players take the role of the human resistance, struggling against the impossible odds of the machine uprising.
The Kickstarter campaign will feature The Termination Box, a box of accessories and miniatures for the game that will be available for a discount only during the Kickstarter campaign. For more information on the Kickstarter and to sign up for email updates, visit www.terminatorboardgame.com.
SHARKPUNK 2 is the sequel to 2015’s SHARKPUNK, an anthology of killer shark stories by a host of genre talent, and published by Snowbooks. SHARKPUNK 2 features brand new SF, F and WTF? stories from the likes of James Lovegrove, Gavin Smith, Gav Thorpe, Guy Haley, Michael Carroll, Jonathan Oliver, and many more.
The inspiration behind the original SHARKPUNK was such classic shark movies as Jaws, Deep Blue Sea and The Reef – as well as such B-movie delights as Sharknado, Sharktopus and Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus – and SHARKPUNK 2 contains more of the same.
SHARKPUNK 2 will also feature a brand new, original Sky Sharks story, set within the same universe as the forthcoming movie, directed by Marc Fehse, which was also funded via Kickstarter.
The book’s editor is Jonathan Green, who is most well known as an author of adventure gamebooks and steampunk novels, and whose previous anthologies – SHARKPUNK, GAME OVER and Shakespeare Vs Cthulhu – have won both critical and popular acclaim.
The Kickstarter to fund production of SHARKPUNK 2 launches on Saturday 28 th January 2017 at 12:00pm GMT (7:00am in New York, 11:00pm in Melbourne) and features a number of exclusives rewards. Included among these are signed Sky Sharks postcards, signed books, and the chance to have your name appear in print. There are also a number of reduced price rewards which will only be available during the Kickstarter’s first week, to encourage early backing.
While designing skill cards we did not want to go the easy way and put “+x bonus” on them. Instead we designed them to be highly dynamic and story related. Hound pulling sniper on his line of movement? Angel of Death with a final charge from the sky? Brute taunting his enemies? All possible in The Edge!
The Edge will have also rich campaign story mode, where the game will be played on 2 boards: economic /political map of the world and regular, conflict Board Game for resolving battles. This way, game will play on two levels, just like in Total War computer games series.
Scenarios will enable you to dive into rich The Edge universe, where you will learn about each factions motivation. They will also force you to take hard decisions with consequences later on in the game.
Each faction from The Edge have different set of units, skill cards and other feel of play. This makes every match up really exciting and you can find a game style that will fit you best.
Large hex system
With large hex system we believe we brought revolution to overall movement and game dynamic. All actions are operated on small hex, but all movement and ranges are considered with Large Hexes (7 small hexes). This way, it is very easy to move around and flow of the game on big board is amazing!
Size DOES matter
The Edge comes with really BIG miniatures and we want you to feel their power and presence. Big units can push over smaller units out of their positions and this gives the game additional dimension.
Game is growing
Gameplay is focused on gathering crystals that will be added to your mana pool. They are constant source of power for your skills. Players are growing in power turn by turn and game is more tense with time.
Build your army and your deck
You will be able to build your army and deck of skills. Thousands of possibilities limited only by your imagination!

The SLA Industries Skirmish Game has been many years in the making, so first a little history.
Way back in 1993 Scottish company Nightfall Games released SLA Industries a science fiction/horror table top RPG. Dice and books not a computer in sight. SLA Industries (SLA pronounced SLAY) is a very British antidote to the slick and angsty settings that were popular at the time. Set in The World Of Progress, the sphere of SLA Industries’ influence in the known universe, players take on the roles of operatives, employees of an all-encompassing company that controls a frightened population with reality TV and violence while a creeping horror claws its way through the edges of reality.
The game has seen renewed popularity recently, as Nightfall Games reclaimed publication, releasing source material as PDFs over the last few years. With the game returning to print in the near future, Nightfall Games partnered with Daruma Productions to produce a line of miniatures (including iconic characters like Halloween Jack and Delia the Destroyer) and a skirmish game to allow more people to enjoy the setting and characters of SLA Industries.
Daruma Productions have already produced a number of miniatures Scavs, Shivers, Carrien and a couple of heroes for the SLA Industries Skirmish Game and the Kickstarter launches the rules!
Rewards for the Kickstarter include the printed rulebook and faction cards.
What you are funding is the rulebook and faction decks. The book is to be full-colour with all-new illustrations by Dave Allsop, designed by Nightfall Games and written by Daruma Productions with dozens of pages of new background and information by Dave Allsop and Jared Earle, two of the original writers of SLA Industries. Our head of Rules Development is Brad Zalad, a familiar face in the UK tournament scene. He runs a tight ship ruleswise and is keen that SLA Industries: Cannibal Sector 1 is a balance between tight, tournament-ready rules and scenario-driven narrative games.
Along with the gorgeous rulebook, you will be getting faction decks and other goodies depending on your pledge levels, all fresh from the high-quality Daruma Productions facilities, including exclusive bags and shirts.
THE WICKED WIZARD OF OZ is a brand new nightmarish gamebook – a multi-path book, very much in the style of Choose Your Own Adventure and Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks, in which you choose the course of the story – inspired by The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum, and the Dieselpunk aesthetic movement.

Of all the locations created by H. P. Lovecraft, none strike such an ominous a note as the ancient town of Innsmouth.
Until now, the only way to visit Innsmouth was through Lovecraft’s fiction, but thanks to an innovative crowd-funding campaign, you can actually purchase property in horror’s most legendary town. That’s right you can now buy and own a house in Innsmouth and it won’t break the bank, (though it may cost your soul).
As part of the crowd-funding campaign for the graphic novel Beyond Lovecraft, multiple award winning artist Rob Moran is building a huge scale diorama of Innsmouth, based on extensive research. As one of the campaign’s perks, Rob will build a select group of contributors a scale model of a house at one of Innsmouth’s prime locations. The house will come complete with a fully illustrated sales brochure, a deed of sale and a special letter of thanks from the town’s leading realtor.
And this is only one of the unique perks and one-of-a-kind experiences that this Indiegogo campaign is offering contributors.
Beyond Lovecraft is a portmanteau horror story that draws directly on the work of H. P. Lovecraft. Drawn by Rob Moran, and written by award winning horror writer Jasper Bark, Beyond Lovecraft is set in the apocalyptic aftermath of the return of the great god Cthulhu. A scattered band of survivors scratch a bare living, hiding in the shadows of their lost world. A tiny group of scientist from Miskatonic university find a way to access the fabled Library of the Yith. An alien archive that contains the entire history of the universe, first mentioned in Lovecraft’s novella: The Shadow Out of Time.
The scientists hope to find a way to stop humanity’s extinction and win back their planet from the Elder Gods. Instead they uncover four tales of cosmic terror, and personal loss, that will forever change the way you view the Cthulhu mythos.
Writer Jasper Bark, says: “I think the main thing that makes our campaign stand out, is that it belongs to whoever gets involved. So many readers feel they have a personal stake in the Cthulhu mythos because, from the very beginning, Lovecraft shared his mythology with other authors as well as his readers. We want to continue this in our approach to the campaign. Every perk we’re offering, is designed to put contributors at the heart of this campaign, to give them a sense of ownership. You know when you pick up a comic and think: ‘This was made just for me!’? If you’re a Lovecraft fan, that’s how we want you to feel about ‘Beyond Lovecraft’. We’re putting it together especially for you.”
Rob adds: “Apart from being a cracker of an idea, some wonderful new twists and insights on the classic Lovecraft stories by Jasper and, all modesty aside, probably the best art of my career, I think there is a great thirst for Lovecraft to be done properly. Can you imagine Lovecraft drawn by Bernie Wrightson or Frazetta or Jesus Blasco? That’s the kind of art I want on Lovecraft stories and I think a lot of Lovecraft purists might feel the same way.”
