The world’s first true post-apocalyptic immersive combat survival attraction

Zed Events to unleash the 'WASTELAND EXPERIENCE’

Following on from the success of the world famous ‘Zombie Shopping Mall Experience’ which ran for 6 years, comes: the ‘Wasteland Experience’, the world’s first true post-apocalyptic combat scare attraction. This is full-on 2+ hour movie-like interactive show where YOU are a survivor in a post-nuclear apocalypse world. With other survivors, you will battle for your life across an 250,000 Sqft abandoned shopping mall full of combat and horror.

With the cities of the UK obliterated by nuclear explosions, the world as we know it ended. 6 years later, the few survivors either banded together to form tribes in order to survive, or went insane. Conflict and horror are a way of life. You will join a tribe and together fight for survival across our massive abandoned shopping mall, clashing with other tribes and unknown enemies. Part combat game, part horror attraction, all the insanity of the Wasteland!

The Wasteland Experience was put together by using their years of running scare attractions and working in film/TV production. The world you will enter was created by the likes of Mark Cordory Creations, Dust Monkey (who are both amongst the world’s premier post apocalypse costume makers) and the Oscar-Winning Coulier Creatures. Everything you will experience will be utterly insane and very real!

The ‘Wasteland Experience’ is powered by the iCombat tactical training system, the most realistic weapon simulation in the world and is used by Police and Military around the globe. This is a combat system that uses ultra-realistic guns with recoil, noise, muzzle flash and hit detection with no projectiles being fired.

Sundance London Film and Music Festival

Sundance Institute and The O2 announced today the programme of panels, feature films and short films for the second Sundance London film and music festival, 25-28 April at The O2. Passes and ticket packages are available at, and individual tickets will be on sale from 9:00 a.m. GMT Friday 15 March.

Sundance Institute, which annually presents the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, U.S.A., selected the film and panel programming. The 2013 programme continues its 2012 focus on presenting new work by independent filmmakers and exploring the interplay between independent film and music.

The programme announced today includes 18 feature films and nine short films across four sections, including a new UK Spotlight. Twenty-three films will make their international, European or UK premieres at Sundance London. Ten are by female filmmakers and six are by first-time feature filmmakers. The films collectively received 12 awards when they premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, U.S.A.. Among the artists expected to attend Sundance London are Lake Bell, Mike Birbiglia, Jimmy Carr, the Eagles, Barbara Kopple and Peaches, as well as Sundance Institute President & Founder Robert Redford.

Robert Redford said, “We would hope for Sundance London to be another ‘Sundance’ experience – lively, culturally relevant and fun. We look forward to engaging with audiences as we discover new voices, new points of view and new perspectives.”

John Cooper, Director of the Sundance Film Festival, said, “The film and panel programme announced today reflects the energy and enthusiasm that ignited audiences just weeks ago at our 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Building on the success of the first Sundance London, we again welcome the opportunity to engage with passionate and adventurous UK audiences and introduce them to the new work of independent filmmakers.”

Rebecca Kane, General Manager of The O2, said, “I am very excited to welcome Sundance London back to The O2 to build on the success of last year’s event, which attracted the likes of Robert Redford, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, and The Prince of Wales. Sundance London is a great opportunity for film and music fans to engage with artistes, and it also plays a big role in showcasing The O2’s ability to host high-profile global events that attract a variety of audiences.”

In addition to film screenings and panels, Sundance London will host several live music performances and events. Peaches has been announced as the first headlining act for the 2013 festival, and tickets for that performance are now on sale. Additional music performers will be named. Among the 17 musical acts at the first-ever Sundance London were Tricky and Martina Topley-Bird, Placebo, and Rufus and Martha Wainwright.

The Crash of The Elysium

The Crash of The Elysium
The Crash of The Elysium

Written by Tom MacRae

Produced by Punchdrunk Theatre Company

Following its successful run in Manchester last year, this interactive theatre piece has moved to Ipswich for a limited run as part of the Cultural Olympiad.

Starting with a gentle exhibition into the history of Victorian steamer The Elysium, proceedings are soon interrupted by two soldiers who take participants inside a recently crashed spaceship, also named Elysium.

From there, MacRae and Punchdrunk have fashioned an engrossing timey wimey tale, that moves between the Victorian era and the present day. For monsters are aboard, and there is a mission from The Doctor to complete.

The sets are things of beauty, rich in detail that demands far longer in the ‘rooms’ than one is given before the action moves on. The cast, drawn here from Ipswich’s Wolesey Theatre, keep the story on track while involving different members of the audience in parts of the drama. As with all interactive theatre, the more you and your fellow participants (up to 20 per show) put in, the more you will get out.

To say much more would ruin the suspense and the enjoyment of the piece. The only slight disappointment was the lack of merchandise on sale at the end, but everyone does leave with a very special memento of their experience.

While this run finishes on Sunday, I would be surprised if Crash wasn’t staged somewhere else for the 50th anniversary next year. Recommended for fans of all ages, but wear light clothes – you will sweat.
