Torchwood is Russell T Davies spin off series from Doctor Who

Torchwood Miracle Day is what we Brits would actually call series 4, but unlike the first 2 series this is one story told over 10 episodes.

I am personally not sure that this is the best way forward. It worked with the previous multi story season Torchwood Children of Earth, as it weighed in at just 5 episodes. At ten episodes long this tends towards the ‘half season’ US format, but falls far short of the sucess of series such as LOST or HEROES.

The first 2 series of Torchwood were excellent. Episode based with an underling story arc. The 10 part single story format seemed to come with a lot of filler. The idea is an interesting high concept one and there is much to explore, but the humour and snappy ness of the first two series has gone.

Evolution in a series should not be discouraged though, but the mix here doesn’t quite sit right.

Summary would be enjoyable and great to watch on DVD so you can skip scenes (episodes) that are plain filler

Synopsis

One day, nobody dies. All across the world, nobody dies. And then the next day, and the next, and the next, people keep ageing – they get hurt and sick – but they never die. The result: a population boom, overnight.

With all the extra people, resources are finite. It?s said that in four month’s time, the human race will cease to be viable. But this can?t be a natural event ? someone?s got to be behind it. It?s a race against time as C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy. The answers lie within an old, secret British institute. As Rex keeps asking ?What is Torchwood?” he?s drawn into a world of adventure, and a threat to change what it means to be human, forever.
